“The claim that our colleague blasphemed Muhammad is not true,” he said of the convert who was badly beaten and left for dead. “He has been the target of Muslims here, as they believe that anyone who leaves Islam must be killed.”

“When the Muslim mob left thinking they had killed him, one of us assisted by moving him to the hospital in town,” he said, with “us” referring to Christian students at the school. “However, when these Muslim students heard that our colleague was still alive and had been moved to the hospital, they rushed to the hospital with the intent to kill him. But when they could not find him there, they rushed to the house where other Christian students were staying and burned eight of them alive.”

These was a statement from the eye witness of the mayhem that took place in Zamfara state in the northern part of Nigeria where eight Christian students were burnt to death on the 22nd of August 2016 just for being Christians and because of that have committed crime. I wonder where all of these will get us to, if not that the present Government headed by President Buhari is hell bent on using this type of acts to cow and intimidate the Christians in Nigeria in order to achieve their age long dream of islamizing the country.

This is one of the isolated cases of brutal killings of Christians in the Country just because of their faith and no one is talking about it. Just some days ago a "REDEEMED Christian Church of God (RCCG) clergywoman and mother of seven Pastor Eunice Elisha was killed by unknown assailants while preaching around the Gbazango-West area of Kubwa near Abuja.

In an inexplicable and bizarre attack, Pastor Elisha, 42, whose birthday was just a couple of weeks away, was stabbed in the stomach and she also had a cut in her neck. She was a deaconess at the Divine Touch Parish of the RCCG, along Old NEPA Road, Phase 4 in the Federal Capital Territory satellite town of Kubwa.

She was found dead in a pool of her own blood with a copy of the bible, a megaphone and a mobile phone. Upon discovering her body, local residents alerted policemen who came to evacuate her remains to the police station where her husband went to identify the corpse.

Her husband, Olawale Elisha, who is also a pastor at the RCCG, said his wife had gone out to preach in the neighbourhood around 5 am only for him to hear the report of her murder. He added that he was still in bed when she left for the session, only to be woken up and told she had been attacked by hoodlums".

How many of these do we talk about? Do we talk about the frequent invasion of some communities in the South Eastern part of the country by Fulani and Hausa Jihadists and no one needs to be told the aftermath of such visitations, what these blood thirsty beasts leave behind, the echoes emanating from the wailing and the cries of children made orphans overnight or of parents whose children were suddenly taken away from them with the edge of swords, with clubs and guns. The trauma of the women they raped in the process yet the Government pays no attention to this because it is in a way fulfilling an agenda that has long ago been in the offing.

I am surprised though that the whole world is standing aloof watching the systematic killings and the annihilation of the Southerners, a genocide that is been aided by the powers that be in our country and nobody is saying anything, I have since started to think that this could be a conspiracy of the highest order against Christians and the Southerners in Nigeria and if that be the case then it is the right time for the Christians in the land to rise and make use of their God given weapon, the power of prayer. Because no matter how big this mountain looks and how wide this gate of hell seem, we have an assurance that this gate of hell shall not prevail against the church, for the son of the bond woman can never be lord over the freeborn.

Therefore let us awake, let the church rise from her deep slumber and  let the Christians stop playing the fools now. The Lord lamented that the children of darkness are in their generation wiser than the children of light. Let us forget about our denominational differences and cry out to the Lord our God, to Christ our saviour who is the symbol of our faith and for whose name we are been killed all day long. Let us rise and pray lest the future of our children and the Church of our Lord be destroyed.
